The Master Crossing the Mediterranean: towards Investment and Integration (MIM) has officially started on 2 October 2017. This is its 3rd intake as an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD). The opening session was at the Faculty of Communication Sciences – Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Maria José Recoder. She inaugurated the event and gave the floor to Prof. Emanuela Trevisan, general coordinator of the Master MIM, from the Università Ca’Foscari Venezia (UNIVE); Dr. Carolina Cerda-Guzmán, coordinator of MIM at Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier (UPVM); and Dr. Teresa Velázquez, coordinator of MIM at UAB.
After the welcoming words expressed by the representatives of the MIM Consortium, Dr. Velázquez introduced Mr. Gerald Català, legal advisor of the Red Cross in Barcelona (Creu Roja Catalunya), who was invited to give the first lesson of the MIM 2016-2018. Under the title “The refuge experience. The refugee crisis in Europe”, the conference presented the challenging work of the Red Cross along the routes of the refugees and their experience taking in the asylum seekers that manage to arrive in Catalonia.
The 2017-2019 edition of the Master MIM includes 33 students from 17 different nationalities. They have been selected precisely from a list of more than 170 applicants. The courses of the 1st module at UAB started on 12 September and will finish on 19 December 2017.
