MIM students start the 2nd module in Venice

The Venice module of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree “Crossing the Mediterranean: towards Investment and Integration” (MIM) started off on Monday 11th January 2016 with an inaugural lecture in Aula Baratto, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

The lecture “L’Europe face à la crise des refugiés”, by Catherine Wihtol de Wenden, director of research at CNRS, Centre for International Research Sciences Po, was grounded in the current events and addressed the issue of migration and migratory laws in the EU.

The opening and welcome remarks were delivered by Prof. Tiziana Lippiello (vice-rector, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice); Prof. Emanuela Trevisan Semi (Genral coordinator of Master MIM coordinator, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice); Prof. Marcella Simoni (MIM lecturer, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice); Prof. Ida Zilio Grandi (MIM lecturer, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice); Prof. Giampiero Bellingeri (MIM lecturer, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice); Prof. Paola Gandolfi (MIM lecturer, University of Bergamo); and Prof. Giuseppe Sciortino (MIM lecturer, University of Trento).

The Venice module will be organized in four main subject areas, focusing on the themes of:

  • Pluralism and Intercultural mediation;
  • Southern shore of the Mediterranean: a deep insight
  • Migratory fluxes, asylum seekers and political refugees
  • Culture as a tool for mediation
