On 23rd-24th March one of MIM students, Esmat Elsayed (class 2016-2018), was at the European External Action Service (EEAS) Headquarters in Brussels, attending the Young Mediterranean Voices + Programme. During the “Dialogue Meeting” organised jointly by the Anna Lindh Foundation and the European Youth Forum, she had the opportunity to exchange views with the EU´s High Representative VP for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, and a new generation of young voices and change makers from North Africa, Middle East and Europe.
According Esmat, “it was a pleasure to set the expectations on Youth Dialogue. The meeting represents an important milestone for the “Young Mediterranean Voices+” Programme (Previously Young Arab Voices) that aims at opening all the channels to youth agency across the Euro-Mediterranean region through large-scale communication and advocacy actions, we are working on developing more effective communication channels to understand youth challenges where we focus on 3 themes (Media negative narrative; Education; Mobility inside the Mediterranean Region). The dialogue was preceded by several workshops with Young Arab Voices and European Youth Forum youth representatives to identify and converge priority challenges of Youth in the region and the messages we want to discuss with the HRVP. The meeting with Mogherini is a major achievement for the project. As a Young Arab Voice from Egypt, being heard by Mogherini gave me hope and commitment to the project especially after the immediate actions announced by the EU as a result of our dialogue”.
